The two day Expedition Race started on 27 August at Edwards Island on the Churchill River. The following morning the teams departed from the base of Muskrat Falls, downstream a further 35 km, under the causeway, through the 'Trappers Pit Stop' and on to the finish line line at Birch Island.

The 22 teams in the half day Classic Race started at the causeway, just as the racers from the Expedition Race were passing by on 28 August. Collectively the teams raced the final 10 km towards the finish line and the excited crowd of spectators.
