The two day Expedition Race started on 27 August at Edwards Island on the Churchill River. After paddling 32 km to Muskrat Falls, the 19 teams had to portage to the top of the steep hill and the check-in station. The following morning the teams departed from the base of Muskrat Falls, downstream a further 35 km, under the causeway, through the 'Trappers Pit Stop' and on to the finish line line at Birch Island.

The 22 teams in the half day Classic Race started at the causeway, just as the racers from the Expedition Race were passing by on 28 August. Collectively the teams raced the final 10 km towards the finish line and the excited crowd of spectators.

Background

This new family event began in 2010, in the central Labrador town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL. The two races that are part of our event take advantage of the extensive network of rivers in this region, providing a spirited annual event for local residents and visitors to Labrador with an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, large Labrador skies and some good old-fashion competitive recreation and fun.

Event themes included small boat safety and activity while showcasing Labrador's trapping heritage and the importance of the canoe for accessing the wilderness of interior Labrador. Thank you for your interest!
